Domain note

LOUIS XIV

The Sun King completes the construction of the castle, which has been dormant since the reign of Henry II. The chapel wing and the enclosure were finally covered with a roof. Louis XIV stayed at Chambord with his court nine times between 1660 and 1685, usually in the autumn. His days were punctuated by hunts, comedies and balls. The famous satire of the bourgeois wanting to become an aristocrat was created by Molière and Lully in front of the king and the court at the Château de Chambord on 14 October 1670.

In 1680, he fitted out a new parade flat in his own image, in the centre of the keep. He also carried out some work around the castle to clean up the site (canalisation of the Cosson) and create a garden worthy of the name on an artificial terrace. However, the work remains unfinished. Finally, he undertook the construction of stables in the forecourt of the castle.
