THE FLEUR DE LYS, EMBLEM OF FRENCH ROYALTY
The lily is a flower with many meanings. A figure of rebirth, purity or fertility, this flower is mainly famous for its place in the history of the French monarchy. It would be during the period extending from 823 to 877 that the fleur-de-lis would have made its entry for the first time, with Charles the Bald (king of Western France, emperor of the West and grandson of Charlemagne). It was chosen as a symbol by the French royalty as other royal families had opted for the leopard, the eagle or the lion.
Since then, present until the revolution on monuments, currency, fabrics and tapestries, sculptures, statues, art objects, painting ... The flower is installed in Chambord since the construction of the castle under Francis 1st. As you can see, the golden lily is a true emblem of royalty and the kings of France.
