Product description

The Pot de Babas is a unique composition created by Sébastien Gaudard for Chambord. The pastry chef from father to son was inspired by the atmosphere of the estate and the history of the castle to offer you this delicious dessert full of history.

We owe the recipe for Baba au rhum to the King of Poland, Stanislas Leszcynski. We are in the 18th century. Legend has it that, having reached a certain age, he suffered from toothache. In order to continue to enjoy pastries, he had a kugelsof served to him soaked in rum. Baba was born! In 1725, his daughter Marie was chosen to be the wife of the French king Louis XV. He moved his parents-in-law to the Château de Chambord. Stanislas organised festivities there during which the famous baba was enjoyed.

Tell your friends about this anecdote at the end of the meal and enjoy these babas between delight and history.

Domain note

CHAMBORD X SEBASTIEN GAUDARD

Since 2015, the artisan pastry chef Sébastien Gaudard has been inspired by the atmosphere of the estate and the history of the Château de Chambord to create unique compositions based on tea, herbal tea and pastries, with a nod to Stanislas Leszczynski, Chambord's famous guest and lover of rum babas.

For the 500th anniversary, Chambord and Sébastien Gaudard have designed a crown and a series of four royal beans inspired by the history of Chambord for King's Day. Each piece is a faithful historical representation, some of which can still be seen in the castle. The crown, adorned with lilies and gold shamrocks, is a tribute to François I, to whom the castle was built in 1519.

The beans honour the crowns of historical figures who have contributed to the development of Chambord over the centuries: François I, Louis XIV, King Stanislas Leszczynski of Poland and the Count of Chambord. Chambord and Sébastien Gaudard sign this brand association on the back of each bean. A pastry chef from father to son since 1955 and elected "Pastry Chef of the Year 2012" by the Pudlo Guide, Sébastien Gaudard combines heritage and innovation with respect for the French art of living and heritage.
