The French gardens
In 2017, Chambord has been transformed in a spectacular way: the castle has rediscovered its French gardens. Imagined under Louis XIV, with a drawing made in 1734, these gardens existed for over two centuries before gradually disappearing in the interwar period. They occupy six and a half hectares at the foot of the northern façade of the castle. It has been more than 20 years since France has seen a garden restoration project of such magnitude, with more than 600 trees, 800 shrubs, 200 rosebushes, 15,250 plants delimiting the borders, and 18,874 square meters of lawns.
